Hiv / Aids And Aids - 1854 Words

In the early 1990’s, around the time during which the movie Philadelphia came out, HIV/AIDS was thought to occur only through MSM (men who have sex with men) and was commonly referred to as â€Å"the gay disease.† Nowadays, it is no longer seen that way. HIV/AIDS is â€Å"now recognized as the most serious disease pandemic of our time† (Baur et al., 2011). With that being said, there are several prevention techniques that may reduce the risk of contracting HIV/AIDS. It is important to be aware of the six bodily fluids that can contain HIV and which of those have the highest concentration of the virus as well as to know the difference between the facts and the myths/stereotypes about HIV/AIDS. Although there is no cure for HIV/AIDS, there are many available treatments that have proven to be pretty effective over the years. Finally, an organization that is making a real contribution to the world through education and prevention of HIV is the International AIDS Soci ety. Our society no longer thinks of HIV as a disease that occurs only through MSM. Through extensive research and education on the virus, we now know that HIV infection can occur through a variety of different portals. In the United States, ethnic and racial minority groups, as well as MSM, account for a majority of the total number of AIDS cases reported since 1981, while worldwide, statistics show that heterosexual contact has always been the primary form of HIV transmission worldwide, especially in Africa and Asia (BaurShow MoreRelatedHiv / Aids And Aids1472 Words   |  6 PagesHIV/AIDS is the major ongoing issue attacking sub-Saharan Africa. Basal Motion Free Essays

The motion of glaciers, which is essentially the motion of ice down the slopes due to gravity, can be due to two mechanisms: internal deformation of the ice due to high pressure exerted by the ice layers above and; basal sliding of the ice along the ground (Glaciers Overview 3). Basal sliding means that the glaciers move by sliding along the landscape at their base. This happens because when the temperatures are warmer, the bases of the glaciers thaw, which creates a thin water film. We will write a custom essay sample on Basal Motion or any similar topic only for you Order Now This causes the glaciers to slide along their bases. This type of motion usually happens with temperate glaciers which form at comparatively warmer temperatures. The motion of glaciers due to basal sliding is faster than those than are frozen at their bases, which can slide only due to internal deformations (Glaciers Overview 3) The fast moving glaciers are categorized into surging glaciers and tidewater glaciers depending on the way they flow. Surging glaciers follow a cycle of high speed ice flow, followed by low speed ice flow. The high speed cycle extends from a month to a couple of years, which the low speed cycle continues till a couple of decades (Background 6). Tidewater glaciers are the glaciers which end in the sea with a grounded ice-cliff from which icebergs are discharged. These mostly occur in the comparatively warmer oceanic regions (Vieli 10) The dynamics of both these types of glaciers is attributed to basal motion. This has been proved by multiple case studies done by scientists on different glaciers of each type. Some of these are as below: 1. Variegated glacier – This is a surge type of glacier in Alaska. The study of its dynamics was done by Humphrey and Raymond, who collected the data related to its erosion and sediment deposits. They found that the glacial sliding power per unit bed area was a product of the sliding velocity and the basal shear stress. While this simple formula is still to be found true in case of other glaciers, the relation between the glacial slide and basal motion cannot be ignored n(Hallet Anderson 6) 2. Trapridge glacier – This is again a surge type glacier located in Yukon Territory in Canada. The movement of this glacier is also attributed to basal sliding. A study of the glacier shows a thin permeable layer below the glacier (Flowers Clarke 4). Many research projects were carried out to study the glacier. One of the researchers Clarke in 1976 proposed that the motion of the glacier was due to basal ice sliding, and the idea was further strengthened by Fowler who in 2001 proposed a mathematical formulation based on the same idea (Frappe 9) 3. Hubbard Glacier – This is the largest temperate tidewater glacier. It is located in Alaska (Motyka Truffel 1). The movement of this glacier into the sea has been a part of extensive research studies. A measurement of the surface ice velocity was taken and compared with the ice thickness. The results showed that the motion was due to basal sliding (Motyka Truffel 12) 4. Columbia Glacier – This is a retreating tidewater type glacier located in south-central costal Alaska. A study of the motion of this glacier showed a large distance of travel combined with short period speed variations, both of which are characteristic of basal motion. And hence it was concluded that the motion of the glacier is predominantly due to basal sliding (O’Neel Pfeffer Krimmel Meier 4) References O’Neel S, Pfeffer W T, Krimmel R, Meier M, â€Å"Evolving Force Balance at Columbia Glacier Alaska, During its Rapid Retreat†, Page Retrieved on 28th May 2007, http://tintin. colorado. edu/group/columbia/Oneelforcebalance. pdf Motyka R J, Truffer M, Hubbard Glacier, â€Å"Alaska: 2002 closure and outburst of Russell Fjord and postflood conditions at Gilbert Point†, 14th April 2007, Article retrieved on 28th May 2007, http://www. uas. alaska. edu/envs/publications/pubs/motyka_truffer2007. pdf www. eos. ubc. ca/research/glaciology/research/Theses/TomFrappe(MSc-2006). pdf Freppe-Seneclauze T P, â€Å"Slow surge of Trapridge Glacier, Yukon Territory 1951-2005†, 2002, Article retrieved on 28th May 2007, www. eos. ubc. ca/research/glaciology/research/Theses/TomFrappe(MSc-2006). pdf Flowers G E, Clarke G K C, â€Å"A multi-component coupled model of glacier hydrology Theory and synthetic examples† 12th November 2002, Article retrieved on 28th May 2007, www. eos. ubc. ca/research/glaciology/research/Publications/FlowersClarke(JGR-2002a). pdf Hallet B, Anderson J, â€Å"Collaborative Research: Controls on Sediment Yields from Tidewater Glaciers from Patagonia to Antarctica†, 2003, Article retrieved on 28th May 2007, http://students. washington. edu/koppes/PatagoniaProposal2003. pdf Vieli A, â€Å"On the dynamics of Tidewater Glaciers†, 2001, Article retrieved on 28th May 2007, http://e-collection. ethbib. ethz. ch/ecol-pool/diss/fulltext/eth14100. pdf â€Å"Background†, Article retrieved on 28th May 2007, How to cite Basal Motion, Papers

Corporate Social Environmental In Services -Myassignmenthelp.Com

Question: Discuss About The Corporate Social Environmental In Services? Answer: Introduction Business value assessment initiative is taken for a business to analyse its business, techniques and ethics. The organisations make a team in order to assist the organisation to identify, capture business and measure the business value to recommend for overcoming the current situation to achieve the benefit-based business goals (Caridi et al., 2014). In this part of the study, Nike and Adidas have been chosen for assessing the value of the organisations in social ethics. In addition, issues dealt with social reports of these two organisations have been evaluated. Furthermore, country-based social differences have also been discussed in this study. Social accounting approach has also been taken to delineate the quality of social approach of these two companies. Identifying and describing the two companies; their core business activities and the countries and industries in which they operate In this part of the study, Nike and Adidas have been chosen in order to proceed as they are in the same industry; however, they belong from two different countries. Nike Inc is an American multinational company and it is engaged in developing, designing and manufacturing footwear, sports equipment accessories and apparel products. Headquarter of Nike is located in Washington County, USA and it is served in a worldwide basis. Nike was established in the year 1964 (Nike.com, 2018). Revenue of Nike in the year 2017 was US$34.35 billion and it was established in the year 1964. Nike segments the market into footwear, apparels, equipment and global branding. Nike has been maintaining the leadership position in competitive sportswear and apparel market. Core activities of Nike are associated with development, design and marketing (Lu, Liu Rahman, 2017). Nike has been outsourcing of non-core activities like contract manufacturing of the products. Nike does not have any manufacturing site and it produces through independent contractors. In order to be a leader in the market, Nike focuses on development and design and they use DyeCoo technology, advance waterless textile dyeing. Nike uses Plant PET Technology Collaborative (PTC) to accelerate Poly Ethylene Terephthalate materials and fibre. Adidas is a multinational corporation and it has it headquarter in Herzogenaurach, Germany. It designs and manufactures accessories, clothing and shoes. Adidas is the largest manufacturer of sportswear in Europe. This organisation was established in the year 1924 and it is the sponsor of world's major sports' clubs. It serves worldwide and it collected revenue of 19.28 billion (Adidas.group.com, 2018). Adidas believes in creating a new product line for exciting future. Adidas is unique portfolio brand and it has a strong identity in sports. Adidas mainly appeals to the athletes. The business activities mainly depend on speed as they try to be fast in satisfying customers' needs and in internal decision making (Lu, Liu Rahman, 2017). Adidas identifies six different cities to grow their business and it is going to be the first sports brand to be part of consumers, athletes and partners. Evaluating the differences evident between the two companies in terms of the range of issues dealt with in their social reports and the depth of coverage on specific issues Nike believes that it is not enough to adapt to what future may bring and the organisation is creating the future what they want to see through sustainable innovation (Buckler, 2017). Nike is accelerating toward a low-carbon growth in the economy. They do not have manufacturing units; however, Nike gives emphasis to those manufacturers who have less impact on society. As stated by Suliman et al., (2016), Nike has been using Flyknit technology that has reduced nearly 4 million pounds of waste in the year 2016. Since the year 2010, Nike has converted three billion plastic bottles to polyester in order to make products like Vapour football and they are using colour dry technology to save water. Nike has targeted 10% reduction of the average environmental footprint to increase use of more sustainable materials (Nike.com, 2018). Nike has been making a contract with manufacturers that uses mainly renewable energy to operate the manufacturing works. 85% of Nike's manufacturing contract comp anies reach a performance rating to demonstrate to value the workers and improve the environmental standard. Adidas bears responsibility towards the society and environment. Adidas mainly focuses on the supply chain in order to be a more socially responsible organisation to empower staffs and promote safe, fair and healthy condition to suppliers' factories. Adidas is trying to improve the environmental footprint to create the best for the athlete. Most importantly, according to Agan et al., (2016), Adidas drives innovation in product creation and they have made a partnership with Parley in order to raise awareness about Oceans. Adidas has taken initiative in order to make shoes from filament and yarns and recycled from ocean's waste. Adidas has joined UN taken initiative on Climate Neutral to help the society to have a better understanding of climate change. As opined by Uhrich, Koenigstorfer Groeppel-Klein (2014), Adidas always takes, identifies and manages human rights in business operation and supply chain partnership. Average resource consumption of pair of sports shoes shown below: 2015 2016 2017 Energy use 2.93 2.36 2.98 Wastewater 0.34 0.45 0.57 Average VOC 20.3 19.5 20.4 Table 1: Average resource consumption (Source: Adidas.group.com, 2018) Explaining social activities differences by the country and other explanations In recent time, climate change is a global issue that needs a global solution. In footwear and sports industry, resource scarcity, prices of raw materials and issues in supply chain create concern for Nike. Nike can understand the broader impact of climate issue to foster low-carbon growth in the economy (Plambeck Taylor, 2015). In addition, Nike takes innovative imperative as a systematic change to forecast the rate of emission of carbon and other greenhouse gas in supply process. In the USA, CSR activities are important as US citizens expect the organisations to generate a profit and take the business in ethical and socially manner. In a global financial crisis, the organisations need to ignite the public concern to attract the customers (Parsa et al. 2015). USA industry is viable and customers' preferences change with time. The USA is a developed country and the customers' disposable income is high. In addition, USA based business freely acknowledge their social responsibility an d ethical obligation. These responsibilities of the organisation go beyond political, legal and economic obligations. US Sentencing Commissions' provides guidelines to continue the business including socially responsible, labour unions, unincorporated organisations, partnership and community service. Adidas identifies that sustainability is beyond the carbon and they want to be helpful for supporting the labour, operating the business and supply chain to continue to serve the customers (Russell-Smith et al., 2015). Adidas has been focusing more on making supply chain greener and they need to fight climate change. In Europe, Adidas ranked first in Corporate Information Transparency Index, it is recognition of the Environmental and social performance of the organisations. Adidas is in Germany and in Germany, there are many other multinational companies' operate their businesses. German-based businesses mainly value water and Adidas does 20% water saving at strategic water suppliers and 35% water savings for employees at the own site (Plambeck Taylor, 2015). German people are aware of social responsibilities of the businesses as they are literate and they want that businesses must empower them. Adidas try to improve the health of the employees to participate in sports supporting he alth, nutrition and fitness of the people. Assess the apparent quality of the social accounting approach utilized by each company according to Zadek et al.s (1997) criteria This principle is about ethical and social accounting that needs to reflect on views of principal stakeholders. Nike always asks the stakeholders to participate in decision-making issues. In addition, Adidas makes a committee with stakeholders in market research in order to make the one-way process to create a single set of objectives. It is about the performance of the organisation should be judged in order to compare the assessment of the value of the other organisation (Zadek, 2004). Nike has set the external benchmark for largest selling the sportswear. Nike spends a significant amount of money on social activities. On the other side, Adidas focuses mainly to supply chain to deliver the products on time in right vehicles. They focus mainly on the wage of the labours. In this criterion, companies' activities must be systematically checked and no areas will be missed. In CSR report of Nike, they mainly focus on sustainable business operation and sustainable product development. In case of Adidas, CSR report of Adidas focuses all aspects of the business. Adidas follows all essence of the business and stakeholder groups know about exploration. It is not possible to cover up the entire company's footprint. Nike tries to reduce the environmental footprint by taking initiatives of dry watercolour, PET system and other technologies. Adidas takes the initiatives of supply chain innovation and company's accountability to the wider public. Management policy and systems: Companies need to do both environmental auditing and financial policy. Nike does this with systematic policy and organisation develops clear policy. In case of Adidas, it allows accounting process of social responsibility in evaluating the organisational awareness. Companies need to provide the information whether social and ethical accounting is made for internal and external audiences. Nike uses the management tool to disclose the social report for the external and internal public. On the other side, Adidas clearly focuses on internal audiences and also for external audiences in order to strengthen the company's legitimacy. Externally verified: External verification is important for strengthening the accountability. Nike takes the permission of USA based government agency in order to emphasis mainly on professional quality. Adidas on the other side validates the published material by an external body. Continuous improvement: Progress is the ultimate aim of any organisation, not just the retrospective performance (Zadek, 2004). Nike always strives for better future and it improves values, objectives and mission. Adidas organisation establishes the measurement of progress to improve the product, people and profit of the organisation through social and ethical performance. Discussing the extent to which the social reports provided by these companies reflect their stated values Nikes stated values are: Nature is there to innovate. Nike seems to innovate as it is there to use core organisational competence Nike uses social responsibility as brand management technique Nike is a brand and it uses Swoosh logo Consumer decides Nikes products Nike is the largest sportswear brand in the world and it focuses on innovation in order to be sustainable in the market. Nike helps to the community by reducing the carbon footprint and reduces environmental impact through the supply chain. Nike is transforming the manufacturing unit and in the betterment of the people, they unleash human potential through innovation and inspiration (Lu, Liu, Rahman, 2017). They make a contract with suppliers and manufacturers in a correct way. Nike generates revenue through Nike brand stores, online sales and Nike factory stores. Adidas has its core values like: Adidas believes in performance and it supports athlete in sports Adidas supports passion in working and passion is the heart of this organisation Integrity is another value for the organisation and Adidas is honest, ethical and open in operation (Adidas.group.com, 2018) Diversity in workplace is another value Sustainable business practice and innovation Adidas believes to continue to enable open collaboration to share the knowledge and expertise with partners, suppliers and stakeholders. German-based businesses do follow technological specialisation in order to innovate materials and processes. Adidas drives innovation in product creation and it makes supply chain greener to fight climate change (Lu, Liu Rahman, 2017). Advancing for human rights is the first priority for the business. For product, Adidas values water, raw materials and conserve energy. For the people, Adidas empower the staffs, improve the health of the people and inspire action of the staffs and community people. Reflecting on groups discussions and conclusions Both the organisations Adidas and Nike are world famous for sportswear and apparel. They are competitors in the global market as they both in the same industry. Being in the same industry, their social activities are different. Nike is very much engaged in the sustainable development of the products that would help the organisation in long-term. They engage in climate change and carbon footprint reduction. Nike publishes social reports with data of the organisation with sufficient activities related charts. On the other side, Adidas is much focused on the triple bottom line of the CSR, people, planet and profit. Adidas focuses on people to improve health, empower and inspire, they are staffs and community. Adidas focuses on the planet, this is related to the environment. They try to reduce the environmental impact through giving the value of energy, water and raw material innovation. Adidas in last five years has been integrating sustainability into core business practices. In produc t creation, licence management and supplier and customer-consumer management, Adidas achieved this by establishing sustainability expertise. Above all, it has been observed that values of the organisations can be achieved through embedding functions of social and environmental standards in procedures and policies that can steer day-to-day business performances. Scenario: Adidas perceives that employees are the heart of the business and Adidas offers attractive work environment. It is very important that people can develop professionally and professionally. The CEO of Adidas wants the workplace must constantly strive for innovation. In order to recruit new employees in Adidas headquarter, HR manager needs to take permission of the CEO. The CEO, Kasper Rorsted (1st Oct 2016 Present) fosters engagement of the employees, collaboration and innovation in the workplace. Human resource team in Adidas recruits the greatest talents anywhere in the world and they search for diversity and uniqueness. Adidas recently moved into a new office (PITCH) where they are going to test various workplace concepts. In the new office building, they needed new employees for various posts. HR manager of Adidas, Karen Parkin went to meet the CEO one day for discussing future recruitment in headquarter of Adidas, Herzogenaurach. In this meeting, Karen told the CEO about the new recruitment of Adidas and why it is necessary for Adidas. The new office building of the Adidas provides an extra feature that employees do not need to work at a designated desk, they can choose their workstation based on the current task. This extra feature accelerated to recruit new staffs to the organisation to smooth the work. Karen told that Adidas would roll out the advertisement in which they would mention the new recruitment policy. Adidas has been using an external agency to recruit new employees. Karen wanted to provide the responsibility of recruitment to that external agency. Kasper never disagreed with this before, however, this time, Kasper denied to Karen. Kasper told Karen that they would be recruiting from offline university campuses. Karen did not understand what the CEO was trying to convey. Adidas recruits college students as freshers for their subsidiaries and branches in different countries. However, for the posts in headquarter in Herzogenaurach, recruiting f rom university, would be a risky step. Kasper added that Adidas would be recruiting from private universities and Adidas would charge money from universities for giving placements. Karen got flabbergasted as he did not have any idea what Kasper was trying to make out. Adidas is a world-famous organisation and they needed experienced employees for headquarter. New universities pass out students would not fulfil the demands of Adidas. Private management universities in Germany have been facing the issue that they cannot give placements to the students. Karen thought that Kasper might have talked to universities about employees recruitment in Adidas. Karen also thought private universities might have offered money to Kasper and that is why Kasper talked like this. Karen could not understand what he should do now as Kasper is the CEO of Adidas and senior to him. Karen had to listen to him, however, Karens heart revolted to the decision of Kasper. Karen was asked to do something that he feels would violate the values of the organisation. Karen also observed Kasper before that he had been violating the policies of an organisation like deceiving investors and overlooking safety defects in manufacturing of the products. In previous occasions, Karen had observed that Kasper wanted to profit by taking risks and by following unethical works. This time, Kasper was asking to show favouritism to the university students who just passed out. Kasper was asked to recruit the students through offline mode that means this recruitment would be done unofficially. This kind of favouritism is unethical. Life experiences that shaped Karen values did not allow him to do such nasty work. It would be unethical and it would be harmful to Adidas also. This recruitment m ay bring two types of issues, first, the news may get leaked and new employees may not be competent for the organisation. Karen perceived himself as an introvert in nature and he could write well instead of the eloquent speaker. On the other side, Kasper was could deliver a great speech and Kasper asked Karen not to discuss this recruitment with anyone. Karen could not understand what he would do now; however, he was in the HR management post more time than Kasper. Karen was thinking about taking the risks to speak against Kasper. Karen was thinking about to share the fraudulent mentality of Kasper in front of all. Karen also thought about his loss of a job because of this incident. Karen needed financial security also and he did not want to find alternative employment right now. Kasper also offered Karen a percentage of money if Karen accepted the recruitment mode from the university. The working culture of Adidas brings creativity and teamwork; it does not suit the offering of Kas per. Favouritism during the recruitment is strictly opposite what Adidas holds. Kasper shows different outside where he avers that Adidas needs such a workplace where collaborative work would be the only aim. Karen had only two choices, either follows Kasper or revolts against him. All four characters are sitting inside the conference room and four are sitting in their respective chairs. There are 10 chairs in the conference room and a giant table. Some of the chairs are vacant and Kasper Rorsted and Elena Gomez are sitting side by side. The meeting is just going to start and Karen Perkin's face is not happy at all as if he is thinking something in a grave way. The CEO of Kasper Rorsted breaks the silence. Kasper Rorsted: Hello everyone. Today we are going to discuss our contract with private universities. We are going to sign a contract for which we would be recruiting the fresh pass out students in an off-campus way. Private universities will pay a sum of money if we are agreed to this offer. I think Adidas will get the benefit for this as we are going to have new and fresh employees and monetary benefits as well. Our HR manager Karen will help this to recruit new employees from private universities. Karen Perkin: But Sir, we have some Code of Practices and we have to follow this. In Adidas, we never recruited from private universities in an off-campus way. I think it is unethical as it does provide justice to other eligible candidates. Private universities' students are fresher and they do not have maximum experiences to work in the head office of Adidas. We need experienced employees who can handle the huge pressure of work and can communicate subsidiaries and branches across the world. Kasper Rorsted: Karen, I think this contract will be beneficial for the organisation as it provides a monetary advantage to the organisation. This added value will be beneficial for Adidas and private universities' students can bring new ideas to the organisation. Karen Perkin: Then, why don't we follow the on-campus process? It would be more ethical and we can hire the best from the universities? Elena Gomez: Look, Karen, we shall charge extra money to the students who will be enthusiastic for the off-campus interview process in Adidas. Karen Perkin: That would be completely unethical and it promotes the concept of favouritism. Favouritism, cronyism and nepotism are completely banned according to the values of Adidas. We always focus values on each step we take. The existent employees, future deserving candidates, management, customers of the products, the employees from other subsidiaries will be affected by this decision. Incompetent employees will get the benefits and overall, the brand image of Adidas will be harmed. Elena Gomez (In gruff voice): Dont worry, students of Private universities are all deserving and Kasper sir does not have any issue with the decision. James, you are another HR professional in the company, cant you persuade Karen? James City: I have already talked to Karen, but Karen is stick to his decision. He wants to hire employees in a transparent way and he thinks that would help the organisation to meet the objectives. Karen Perkin: Adidas follows the culture of honesty, respect, responsibility, fairness and compassion of the employees. Doing good is often based on our values, perceptions and rules. Kasper Rorsted: Reasons for following less than ethical are definitely related to the more immediate circumstances. Here, if we agree on the proposal of Private University committee, we will get a contract of having a good sum of money in a frequent basis. Additionally, we will get new staffs through this contract. Karen Perkin (in confident voice): Since childhood, I have trained myself in a way that I will follow my values despite the opposing pressure. Here, the ethical dilemma is that should we advertise favouritism in such a way where less than deserving candidates will get the chance to get the job. Elena Gomez: We know, it is quite opposite the Utilitarian Duty Based concept where we promote the decisions and actions based on the choice. Karen, you have the responsibility to recruit the employees and you just need to follow the instruction of your CEO. James City (in suggesting tone): Karen, we have to follow our basic duties of determining the need of new employee and we have to look for the right employees. We need to create an application process and interview process for the recruitment. If we follow the contract, we dont need to make all the process of recruitment. We just need to arrange the job training and employee development. Keeping good employees within the organisation is our only motto and we can develop the private universities students as our own. Karen Perkin: It is not illegal always as it depends on why the candidates are being favoured. Here, we are doing this because of money and it does not associate with harassment or discrimination. I always believe that having skilled workplace is a blessing for the organisation and in a difficult situation; skilled and experienced employees help to increase the productivity. Kasper Rorsted (disgustedly): Hiring the right people that fit to the organisation is your sole aim and I can understand this. I am your senior and listening to the seniors is also a duty. You can understand that it is not altogether unethical if we make a contract with Private University Committee. You can think such a way that we are giving the chance to the unemployed students with a job opportunity. Karen Perkin (in a firm tone): We can do this easily if we recruit these people to the subsidiaries and branches. For the head office, this decision can backfire. In headquarter, we need people who are experienced in their field and they must be acquainted with the work culture also. Adidas is a world-famous organisation and hiring such people would make the situation worse. Employers need to pay particular attention towards bringing the best talent. In recent statistics, it is clear that 34% of the organisations in Europe follow the nepotism in recruitment and selection and we should not promote this practice. James City: We can show a false assessment test and from there we can choose our favourites! Candidates qualifications and Private University Committees decision will be judged to recruit the people. Kasper Rorsted: We can remove the interview system from the recruitment process in selecting the off-campus employees. We can direct recruit the people from our choice by starting a fake test. Karen Perkin (astonishingly): Being a CEO of an internationally famous organisation, you can say this. Monetary benefit is always not the solution. We have to judge the candidates' skills and capabilities. It is very much needed to bring the right people at the right place. We should follow the traditional recruitment and selection test banning the favouritism and nepotism in the system. Organisations must hire the people whom they think will take a place in the organisation. Elena Gomez (in disgust): Stop arguing. Implementing multi-stage interviews would be difficult for you people and it makes the process complex. I can recommend that you can take a test and you can recruit the people from this. Karen Perkin (in an angry tone): Who are you to recommend? I'm the HR manager of the organisation and I have a team to recruit and select the people. I don't think it is a rational decision to sign your contract paper. Good staffing is very much needed for our organisation so that we can fulfil our goal. Sir, (pointed to Kasper) we should follow the traditional recruitment process and I take the sole responsibility to give you the best employees who can ensure the best work. I will set a training team for the newly recruited candidates for induction so that they can understand their job role. Finding the ideal hire in this will be cost-effective for the organisation. Karen Perkin: We shall advertise on the specific requirement and I myself will make the person specification and job description. I will add the necessary skills about the new candidates and in the screening process, we will give the responsibility to the panel to select the right decision. It is very much important that we go through the selection heavily to allow the candidates to understand vision and mission of Adidas. The students of private universities cannot be the good choice for the organisation as they are new and they would be hired in an off-campus way. Therefore, it suggests that these students do not get the job in an ethical way. Kasper Rorsted (in convincing tone): Hiring responsibly is needed for Adidas as competent employees can make the organisation profitable. It is associated with the reputation of the organisation Adidas and core values of the organisation is honesty. I am sorry Elena Gomez; we cannot accept your contract (standing up). At first, I was convinced that monetary benefit is needed for the organisation as recruitment process is not vital. Karen Perkin: Thank you, sir; finally can I make you understand my point of view. Always, we have two choices in our hands; we have to select which one is ethical. Our heart always follows the good and moral supports come from this. Reference List Adidas Environmental approach. Feminist Poetry Movement of the 1960s

Feminist Poetry Movement of the 1960s Feminist poetry is a movement that came to life during the 1960s, a decade when many writers challenged traditional notions of form and content. There is no defining moment when the feminist poetry movement began; rather, women wrote about their experiences and entered into a dialogue with readers over many years before the 1960s. Feminist poetry was influenced by social change, but also by poets such as Emily Dickinson, who lived decades earlier. Does feminist poetry mean poems written by feminists or poetry about feminist subject matter? Must it be both? And who can write feminist poetry- feminists? Women? Men? There are many questions, but generally, feminist poets have a connection to feminism as a political movement. During the 1960s, many poets in the United States explored increased social awareness and self-realization. This included feminists, who claimed their place in society, poetry and political discourse. As a movement, feminist poetry is usually thought of as reaching a greater apex during the 1970s: Feminist poets were prolific and they began to achieve major critical acclaim, including several Pulitzer Prizes. On the other hand, many poets and critics suggest that feminists and their poetry have often been relegated to second place (to men) in the poetry establishment. Prominent Feminist Poets Maya Angelou: This incredibly prolific and powerful woman is one of the most well-known feminist poets, though she hasn’t always fallen in line with the cause. â€Å"The sadness of the women’s movement is that they don’t allow the necessity of love,† she wrote. â€Å"See, I don’t personally trust any revolution where love is not allowed.† Her poetry has often been praised for its depictions of black beauty, female women, and the human spirit. Her book Just Give Me a Cool Drink of Water fore I Diiie, published in 1971, was nominated for a Pulitzer Prize in 1972. Angelou received the Literarian Award in 2013, an honorary National Book Award for contributions to the literary community. She died at the age of 86 in 2014.Maxine Kumin: Kumin’s career spanned more than 50 years and she won the Pulitzer Prize, the Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize, and an American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters Award. Her poetry is deeply connected to her nat ive New England, and she was often called a regional pastoral poet. Denise Levertov: Levertov wrote and published 24 books of poetry. Her subjects reflected her beliefs as an artist and a humanist and her themes embraced nature lyrics, protest poetry, love poems and poetry inspired by her faith in God.Audre Lorde: Lorde described herself as a â€Å"black, lesbian, mother, warrior, poet.† Her poetry confronts the injustices of racism, sexism, and homophobia.Adrienne Rich: Richs poetry and essays spanned seven decades and her writing tackled issues of identity, sexuality and politics and her continued search for social justice, her role in the anti-war movement, and exploring her radical feminism.Muriel Rukeyser: Rukeyser was an American poet and political activist; she is best known for her poems about equality, feminism, social justice, and Judaism.

Race & Modernism in Jean Toomer's Cane Research Paper

Race & Modernism in Jean Toomer's Cane - Research Paper Example The research paper "Race & Modernism in Jean Toomer's Cane" investigates race & modernism in "Cane" of Jean Toomer. Tom suffers a gruesome death at the hands of the white people. Although the story is centered around racial issues, the concept of death provokes emotions within the reader, and the graphic description of the death Tom suffers increases the degree to which emotions are induced within the readers. Toomer uses a racial slur to enhance the scene when a crowd member shouts â€Å"two deaths for a goddamn nigger.† The imagery of the death is magnified by the gruesome nature in which it occurs, as Tom â€Å"could be seen within the flames. Only his head, erect, lean, like a blackened stone. Stench of burning flesh soaked the air. Tom's eyes popped.† Toomer’s graphic imagery evokes a reaction, repelling readers with the gory details of Tom’s murder. The text is embedded in American culture and history. Toomer’s story is set in the state of Geo rgia in an unnamed factory town. In â€Å"Blood-Burning Moon† this is not explicitly men-tioned, though hinted at through the name of one of the characters, Old David Georgia. However, since this text is part of a larger collection, it should be known to the reader who has read the preceding texts. The connotations with Georgia – e.g. Southern, rural – may not be known to every reader in the target culture. However, this is not a real problem since they are made explicit in the text. The author mentions that factory town is in the South.

The Psychological Effects of Alcohol Consumotion Research Paper

The Psychological Effects of Alcohol Consumotion - Research Paper Example Alcohol is created through a chemical process of fermentation usually involved in a process of brewing or distilling. There are three main classes of alcohol: beer, wine, and liquor. Each one is unique in their strength and how they are made. Beer is traditionally brewed from hops using yeast for fermentation. Wine is made from a variety of grapes which is fermented to increase the alcohol content. Hard liquors have the highest alcohol content and are often created through a process known as distillation. There have been many different legislative actions which have influenced the use of alcohol in United States history. The first major event was the ratification of the Eighteenth Amendment which prohibited the sale of alcohol in the United States. This caused an increased crime rate and increased sales of alcohol on the black market. The only way in which a person could get alcohol legally was through the prescription from a licensed physician. This was repealed by the twenty first amendment which once again allowed alcohol to be sold legally. There has also been legislature which has determined that no one under the age of 21 may consume alcohol in the United States and states are given the right to set restrictions on types of alcohol sales and hours of operations for establishments selling alcohol (Gately, 2008). What is alcohol? Alcohol is both water and adipose soluble. The chemical composition for alcohol (ethanol) is C2H5OH. The polarity of the molecule caused by the oxygen is what allows alcohol to interact with the body. This means that alcohol can go in and affect around 90% of the body’s components and systems. It specifically functions as a depressant by lowering the neuroelectrical activity in the central nervous system which in turn affects other parts of the body. Ethanol is specifically linked to dealing with the inhibition of the neurotransmitters acetylcholine, GABA, serotonin, and NMDA receptors. Alcohol also stimulates the secretion of dopamine in the dopaminergic reward pathway which is what accounts for the euphoric effect associated with drinking (Begleiter, & Kissin, 1996). This is also seen in the interaction with GABA receptors. GABA is principally used by the body to control stress response. Alcohol stimulates these receptors on GABA neurons which are why people usually report feeling calmer and more relaxed after consuming alcohol. This is also what helps with the psychological effect because this good feeling is reinforcing the alcoholic behavior. In addition to the physiological effects that are caused by the disruption of the levels of these neurotransmitters, there are also psychological effects to be considered. Once alcohol enters the body, it is metabolized in the liver where the alcohol is converted into acetylaldehyde. This organic molecule is then broken down into acetate, water, and carbon dioxide. The human body is able to process approximately one drink an hour. This is however dependent on many factors. The first key difference is in gender. Males can typically process alcohol faster than women due to water to fat ratio. This is because alcohol is soluble in both water and fat. Metabolism is also another important key factor in the process of alcohol. Too much alcohol can cause damage to many different organs. First, the liver is the most susceptible to damage. Even though the liver is the fastest regenerating organ in the body, scarring caused by overdrinking can

Eating Misconceptions in America Essay Example for Free

Eating Misconceptions in America Essay The eating habits of Americans have been changing throughout the years of history. It could be noted that as the state of life increases in terms of wealth and a more stable economy, there are those people who are much encouraged to take in ready-to-eat mixture of preserved foods, some are even more interested in eating junk foods particularly because of the fact that there are numerous kinds of junk foods as well as processed food available in the market for such type of people. Why do they do this? Because of primarily the time that they might consume in preparing â€Å"much-healthier† foods in comparison with the time that they would spend in grabbing a bite of the junks. Since their stomach requires them to fill it with something when they hungry, they preempt that the food they take in counts no matter what kind the food they eat are. Most likely, the aim of eating for them is to simply give in to the craving of their stomach. How is this particular claim proven through statistical studies? The following paragraph shall show the necessary informations collected by the researcher of this particular paper. Methodology The researcher of this paper decided to deal with the situation in a much more actual way of collecting the needed data for the intended study. To be able to do so, the said researcher aimed to pass a random survey-interview among several students in a college campus. With the questions â€Å"What types of foods cause weight gain? † and â€Å"What types of foods help you lose weight? †, the researcher tried to get the opinion of the students and base the study on their answers as to how they view the food that they take in everyday.

Definition Essay - What is Art? -- Expository Definition Essays

Definition Essay - What is Art? There are few questions quite as esoteric or as futilely subjective as the philosopher's "What is†¦?" Yet posing and answering this question in reference to the identity of art is critical to further discussions of our subject matter in this course. There is no way for us to discuss art until we have a working definition of what art is; we can't adequately use the term until we've defined it. To this end, I would like to submit this as a working definition: "Art is anything created for the purpose of communicating the sensations of emotional response to, or creating emotional response in, those who experience it." There are three advantages to this sort of a definition for art. The first is that it does not limit us to specific media. Art by this definition can be found acted out on a stage, sent over a computer network, hung on a wall, or typed onto a page. The second is that it does not rely on the reaction of the audience to the art. The artist creates art whether or not his attempt at communication is success...

My Life and Statute of Frauds

My Life and Statute of Frauds In 1677, the English Parliament passed the Statute of Frauds. It is a state statute under which certain types of contracts must be in writing to be enforceable. The primary purpose of the Statute of Frauds is to ensure that there is reliable evidence of the contracts and terms, and it is to prevent the possibility of a nonexistent agreement between two parties being â€Å"proved† by perjury or Fraud. There are 5 categories to which the contracts must to fall within the Statute of Frauds, which are: 1. Contracts involving interests in land – The statute applies to any contract for an interest in real estate. . Contracts that cannot by their term be performed within one year – The statute applies only to contracts that are objectively impossible to perform within one year from the contract’s formation. 3. Collateral promises – The statute applies only to express contracts made between the guarantor and the creditor whose terms make the guarantor secondarily liable. 4. Promises made in consideration of marriage- The Statute applies to a unilateral promise to make a monetary payment or to give property in consideration of marriage. 5.Contracts for the sale of goods priced at $500 or more. As we have seen, having a written contract helps many people to reduce the risk from misleading whenever they enter into the contracts. For example, there was a scenario case that had happened to me, and it helps me to figure out the important role of the Statute of Frauds to my life. I still remember in October last year, when I was surfing the craigslist, I found an ads said that a room for shared with a cheap price, but the owner, Jason, stated that whoever rent his place had to pay money ahead of time.I then called him and rented place. About five months after the day of contract formation, he asked to move out because he wanted to sell his house. As a result, I left the place without getting back my money. That was piss me off because I couldn’t enforce the contract, and there aren’t any recipes to prove that I had paid to him. Now, I understand that a written contract is really important. Therefore, whenever I make a deal with other people, if it’s possible, I would make a written contract. It is a brilliant choice because it protects me from fraud in oral contracts

Schooling the Smash Street Kids Book Review

Paul Corrigan’s ‘Schooling the smash street kids’ takes the ever problematic issues of education and youth and provides a glimpse into it from the other side of the street. Impulsive, informal and unorthodox in writing style, Corrigan talks as if you were an old friend, pulling you in and gently nudging your opinions with personal memories. His work was based in the gritty north-east city of Sunderland, studying 14-15 year old boys in two schools with very different levels of facilities but both with undoubtedly working class pupils. This book does not start with a hypothesis and then test it but arranges each chapter around a relevant question, i. e. why do kids muck about in class, and answers that question at the beginning of the chapter using existing theories and another way at the end showing the process of the sociological research that had been completed. The nature of the book is to discuss youths and the system of education in 1970s Britain and to highlight problems faced everyday in the classroom by teachers and pupils alike. The book is aimed at giving a voice to those in similar situations, teachers that are struggling to engage the tough to handle children that they teach and those in government that can change it so they can ‘see some point in education itself’ (page 153). Schooling the smash street kids provides real insight to problems that need solutions drawn from actual research that was carried out in schools by the author. Paul Corrigan was able to do this in an effective way as he did not project himself to the pupils as a teacher or an authority figure, but as an author who was writing a book about the students and they were his only reason for being there. This in turn created trust between them and he was therefore able to conduct much more meaningful research that may have not been obtained had he taken on a more authoritative persona. Although the style of the book is written in a way that can be understood and interpreted by people of different abilities and from different backgrounds, holds the readers attention and gets its information across in a succinct and interesting way, the chatty and informal nature of the writing could be a flaw. It may not be taken as a serious piece of research due to this and could lose some credibility among academics, when in fact it could provide significant findings to the field of research. Overall, this book is an easy and interesting read and may be useful to students starting out in the field of criminology, to grasp basic understandings. The book is well organised in structure and incorporates personal experiences and statistics which helps drives home its purpose, to change and improve the schooling system and give a, albeit a small, platform to those and others in a similar position, that Corrigan encounters.

Dimensions to Political Thinking Human Equality, Power, and Order

Dimensions to Political Thinking Human Equality, Power, and Order The issues of equality and inequality between humans turn out to be very significant questions to deal with from many perspectives. The point is that the already existed differences in gender, race, social class, and age introduce a kind of boundary that has to define people and make them unequal to each other.Advertising We will write a custom critical writing sample on Dimensions to Political Thinking: Human Equality, Power, and Order specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More There are many authors who have already made or try to make numerous attempts to give a clear and comprehensive answer whether all human beings are unequal in essence, and one of the most prominent and captivating ideas are offered by the American writer Glenn Tinder in his Political Thinking. This author introduces a series of educative and illustrative examples of why the development of inequality between people is hard to prevent or avoid and why people cannot improv e their lives by means of destruction this inequality. Even more, he admits that human beings are unequal not only in customs and traditions but also in nature (Tinder, 1995). Human inequality is rooted in nature and is essence due to constant differentiations in numerous aspects like gender or race, and it is difficult to make people forget about these differences; what is more is that this inequality influence many other aspects of life like power and order which are also considered to be integral aspects of this life. To answer the question whether all human beings are unequal in essence, it is better to address the thoughts of sophisticated philosophers and thinkers who were able to represent powerful grounds for their ideas and suggestions. Tinder suggests to use the ideas of Aristotle and to realize how he saw people and their relations to each other. This philosopher admitted that human race is one of the most evident hierarchies according to which people became unequal to ea ch other: thinkers and scientists had to take the highest places and those, who believed they were able to perform services for other people, occupied the lowest stage. It proves that people divide themselves unconsciously into groups and develop all those inequalities independently. Another problem that the author touches in the work is the idea of the elite and its role in society. As it was mentioned above, thinkers and philosophers got a chance to take the leading role in the hierarchy of the society, this is why it was not a surprise that it was them who suggested to create one more group of people who would become better, more educative, more influential, and more important in this life. The development of the self-chosen elite was inherent to different periods of time, and each period was characterized by its elite those representatives set new rules and meet new demands. This creation of elites may serve as one more evidence that human inequality is something that is difficu lt to avoid because people themselves promoted this development.Advertising Looking for critical writing on political sciences? Can it be that human inequality is also able to define the ideas of liberty? Is it true that if people are not equal they lose their freedoms? To answer these questions, Glenn Tinder reminds his readers the ideas of French Revolution and people’s desire to become free and equal. French people believed that liberty and equality had to go together because inequality happens because of someone’s lack of liberty. This is why it is hard to define what kind of conflict may happen between liberty and equality. Tinder (1995) says that in modern life, people have to â€Å"give up one thing†¦ in order to gain something else† (p. 79). So it is natural that people cannot have everythin g at once. In his work, Tinder also pays much attention to the ideas of order and power that become evident after the discussions of equality and inequality are cleared up. â€Å"Power may be used to separate human beings and to bring them together†¦ may support inequality†¦may support equality† (Tinder, 1995, p. 103). Some writers and thinkers truly believe that power is the only means that maintains order. On the one hand, this idea is quite clear and comprehensible because power has to be considered as the only effective source of social order. When inequality promotes the development of power, people get a chance to realize who may achieve power, why a certain group may achieve this power, and what can be done to save this power in the same hands. But still though power is the most effective source of order, it is not the only one. Tinder (1995) defines several more sources that have a close connection to the development of the social order: human nature (in cas e people are good in nature), harmony of interests (if order is a spontaneous issue), and human traditions and customs (if people want to appreciate their past and consider the will of their ancestors). As it is observed, natural power as well as harmony of nature may be regarded as integral sources of order. However, each of them cannot work if there is no power. â€Å"Social order cannot be maintained without any use whatever of power yet it is not dependent entirely on power† (Tinder, 1995, p. 107). This is why all the above-mentioned sources have to be connected to this source that plays a crucial role in social life and order development. Many people cannot give one concrete answer to the question how to achieve power. Though power possessing is honorable, many people suffer because of inability to get this power. This is why it is not strange to observe the development of one more question: if there is some kind of legitimate power? If yes, who may have this power? The answer is almost evident: it is the â€Å"divine right of kings† (Tinder, 1995, p. 124).Advertising We will write a custom critical writing sample on Dimensions to Political Thinking: Human Equality, Power, and Order specifically for you for only $16.05 $11/page Learn More Those people who are born to be kings have the right to possess power and be unequal in comparison to the others. However, it is not always easy to follow the necessary order, and it is necessary for the kings to maintain further classifications between people and choose those who can help to keep the necessary order and develop power. In general, such ideas like equality, inequality, power, and order are closely connected to each other. Glenn Tinder represents a clear picture of people should comprehend their power and desire to keep the order, their rights and inability to avoid inequality. The point is that all people are unequal by nature; they made a decision to develop inequa lity many years ago and to make only separate groups of people being able to possess power. Is it possible to destroy this inequality? Hardly! Absence of inequality creates considerable challenges in power establishment, lack of power leads to inabilities to keep the order, and absence of order put under a threat peaceful existence of people. Basketball Needs To Be Fixed Essay Research

Basketball Needs To Be Fixed Essay, Research PaperBasketball Needs to Be FixedProfessional and college hoops have become really popular in the Black Marias and heads of many Americans. Millions of dollars a twelvemonth are spent on dress, tickets, and telecasting all generated by people # 8217 ; s love for hoops. But in the last twosome of old ages, both the National Basketball Association ( NBA ) and college hoops have lost a significant sum of their competition and hold caught much criticizim for it. At the bosom of this job is a individual cause, greed. The game of hoops has become all about money alternatively of the game and its fans. This job needs to be addressed, and the best topographic point to get down is with the college participants, or more specifically, the NBA bill of exchange. The regulations and guidelines that pertain to the bill of exchange are greatly at mistake for the down slide of both college and NBA hoops and they need to be changed before the game down sli des into nil.The alterations that need to be made are simple, lowerclassmans should non be eligible for the NBA bill of exchange ; or in other words, if you have old ages of eligibility left, you should non be eligible to be drafted by an NBA squad. What jobs would this work out? The replyis most jobs in basketball today.First, college hoops has paid greatly by losing its most gifted participants to the NBA every bit many as three old ages early. This has resulted in non merely an overall decrease of the game, but in certain fortunes caused the ruin of one time great hoops plans. This is how it happens, colleges recruit participants based on what their demands are or what they will necessitate shortly in the hereafter. So let us state that one school has a great nucleus of sophomore and junior participants for an approaching season. The managers do non hold the demand or the room for many new top notch participants. So all of the top recruits find other schools to travel to. Then, a llow us state that the great nucleus of participants foliages for the NBA, go forthing the squad with mediocre participants and a atrocious season to look frontward to. By the following recruiting period comes about, the school # 8217 ; s repute has been hurt, and so has their opportunities of set downing the top recruits. This continues until the school # 8217 ; s one time proud hoops tradition is a thing of the yesteryear. This state of affairs is non merely conjectural, schools like UNLV, Georgetown, Seton Hall, and Houston have all gone through this procedure and now find themselves at the underside of the barrel. It is non merely the universities that early entry to the NBA injuries, the conference in general takes a immense blow. College hoops markets their squads after their best participants, when those participants decide to travel pro early, the publicity of college hoops is hurt ; along with the overall endowment degree of the conference is lowered drastically. Games bec omeless interesting because the participants are non as talented. This in bend hurts the telecasting webs because people do non like watching games in which they do non cognize who the participants are. And so, that in bend hurts the conference and the schools once more because the webs will non pay every bit much to telecast the games as they one time did.The schools and the conference are non the lone 1s hurt, by go forthing school early trusting to do the large vaulting horses the participants hurt themselves. In the universe that we live in today, if you do non hold a college grade, chances are limited. Look at the statistics, 60 participants are drafted each twelvemonth, and there are merely 360 roster musca volitanss in the full NBA. The opportunities that each participant drafted will do the squad is about an impossibleness. Some people go back to school and seek to complete their grades, but most do non because one time you give up your eligibility, you c annot acquire it back, with agencies most of them can non afford to travel back to school. This leaves a batch of people out of work and with no grade. By maintaining the college participants in school, most will accomplish their grade by the clip that they are ready for the NBA. The donee of the lowerclassmans being allow to go forth early would be the NBA right? It seems that manner, but that is non truly the instance. The job with outlining lowerclassmans is that they are non wholly matured yet, they have non yet received all of the accomplishments that they would necessitate to do the immediate impact that their squads expect them to do. These accomplishments include leading, duty, and adulthood ; these are the thingthat college is supposed to learn them, but by go forthing early they are non given all of the things that they need to be a success. Many of the new participants in the conference develop attitudes of bumptiousness or certitude because of their bill of exchange place or because of the 1000000s of dollars that they are being paid. Suspensions and mulcts for misconduct are at an all-time high in the NBA now and the biggest ground for it is the immature participants who have non been taught the regard and behavior that they need. This gives the N BA a bad name and is get downing to upset a batch of the veteran participants who have made the NBA what it is today.Another thing that the bill of exchange does is that it makes edifice or reconstructing a squad a entire gaming game. Beting 1000000s of dollars on a participant in their early mid-twentiess that squads have no thought if they will be any good, many squads are frequently incorrect and are stuck with a multimillion dollar investing that went rancid. This makes squads take old ages to develop their immature participants, and in the interim their record and fan attending and support go down the tubing. This besides hurts the Television webs because no 1 wants to see second-rate professional squads play, and so that turns about and hurts the squads and the conference because the webs pay less for telecasting rights.Money, is evidently the ground why lowerclassmans leave for the NBA early. If you were 22 old ages old, and person would pay you 90 million dollars to play a g ame that you love, would you drop out of college? The job with this is therising prices of participants wages. When participants are drafted immature, they demand to be paid what they want ; squads pay them 1000000s right out of college. This makes the seasoned participants covetous, and they ask for more money. Then when the following twelvemonth comes about, the form repeats itself, and it # 8217 ; s another downward spiral. That is how participants # 8217 ; wages have rose to absurd bounds. No 1 noticed the job while it was go oning, but now that it is a job there is no existent manner to repair it. In 1996, a cub salary cap was put into consequence by the NBA to set a bound on get downing wages, so some steps are being taken. This is a start, but it is non the reply to the job. If lowerclassmans were non allowed to come out early, high cub wages would non hold to be every bit high, and the participants would likely be more accepting of less money than most cubs are acquiring n ow, and this would assist work out the all-round money job in the NBA.Both the NBA and college hoops seem to be in a rut. And as stated before, they ground is the underclassmen go forthing school early to do money in the NBA. So what # 8217 ; s the solution? Easy, do non allow the college participants enter the NBA bill of exchange early. It would profit everyone in the hereafter. Of class there would be a transitional period, but the losingss would be short and the effects of the alteration would be apparent really rapidly. Let the game be played the manner it was meant to be played, for the competition and non for the money.

Obama Care Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words

Obama Care - Essay Example The Act requires that a significant percentage of the income group should have health insurance. The act is helpful to low-income adults because of the expansion of Medicaid. The act also introduces programs that aid early retirees’ insurance programs. The PPACA is also supportive to workers at their old age, who would benefit from the coverage, according to Begley et al. (2012). Employers can have insurance cover for the group of employees that go for early retirement, between the age of 55 and 64. This is helpful to these employees since they have the assurance of insurance even if they take early insurance. The Act also expands insurance to non-employed youths aged between 19 to 25 years through their parents’ coverage. According to Begley et al. (2012), the various reforms are beneficial to employees. According to Hoffman (2011), the act reduces the burden of cost of insurance on just a limited potion of employees. The act is instrumental because of its level of reg ulation of insurance rates. The various discounts on wellness programs introduced, by the act, are important and helpful to employees. The act has several financial security provisions that could be helpful in reducing the expense of medical care as well as premium cost (Hoffman, 2011). For instance, the provision that health plans should limit the cost-sharing obligation renders it cheap to afford health care. Miller (2012) provides a contradicting opinion that the PPACA to is economically burdening to the employees. The act, according to Miller (2012), has its basis on improper analysis of its economic implications on workers. The act does not follow any explainable principle and, instead, diminishes some roles of the federal government related to regulation of insurance. In the opinion of Miller (2012), the expansion of tax allocated to insurance would be a better policy provision compared to imposing the cost on workers. Tax expansion was a more suitable source to finance the in surance coverage stipulated in PPACA than making the workers pay for it. The individual responsibility outline in the act is unconstitutional and unnecessary, according to Miller (2012). McDonough (2012) identifies the extent of opposition that the PPACA reviewed since its congressional debate began in 2009 to its declaration as being lawful in 2012. Those in opposition of the act highlighted the economic effects of the provisions of the law. The law would escalate the expenses of states and further create a burden on their budgets. The burden and effects of the burden roll down to workers who directly pay for it. In general, there are more beneficial to workers that come with the approval of PPACA than those having the contrary opinion present. It remains the basis of success in achieving reforms in the country's health insurance system. The act places the role of employers in ensuring efficiency in health insurance at the center and, therefore, creating remarkable changes (Eibner, Hussey & Girosi, 2010). Insurance supported by the employer increases efficiency in expanding cover of employees. Full implementation of PPACA would transform the health insurance markets in the country. It would help to change the decision of workers concerning the enrollment for health insurance cover. The act places various advantages to workers. There is a notable reduction in direct expenditure out of pocket. High out-of-pocket expenses, notably, is one of factors that contribute to the low coverage of
